■ What is Himekawa Yakuseki?
Himekawa medicinal stones are produced in the Itoigawa region of Niigata Prefecture and in parts of Toyama Prefecture. Rhyolite is a type of volcanic rock that emits small amounts of radiation as a radium ore.
Because it emits low levels of natural radiation, it has recently been attracting attention as a stone that may have a hormesis effect.
The official mineral name of Himekawa Yakuseki is rhyolitic tuff, and it is also referred to as quartz porphyry (medicinal stone).
